USC Freshman Loses Eye After DHS Agent Fires Projectile at Los Angeles Protest

An 18-year-old USC freshman had his right eye surgically removed after a DHS agent fired a less-lethal projectile at him while he was photographing a "No Kings" protest in downtown Los Angeles on March 28. Attorney V. James DeSimone announced plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit, saying the student was documenting the event, not participating. The firm has represented over 15 people allegedly injured by federal agents during recent protests. Federal judges have issued injunctions restricting DHS and ICE use of certain less-lethal munitions at protests, but enforcement has been contested.
