Italy and Spain Summon Israeli Ambassadors After Shots Fired at UNIFIL Peacekeepers in Lebanon

Italy summoned the Israeli ambassador after Israeli warning shots damaged an Italian vehicle in a UNIFIL convoy in southern Lebanon. Spain also summoned its Israeli envoy over similar incidents. Italian Foreign Minister Tajani called it "completely unacceptable that personnel operating under the U.N. flag should be put at risk by irresponsible actions." Italy contributes more than 750 soldiers to the peacekeeping force. The incidents occurred as Israel carried out its heaviest strikes on Lebanon since the conflict began.
